Richard was first inspired to dabble in stone carving when he chanced across a public workshop at Yorkshire Sculpture Park 30 years ago. He thought he would like to give it a try and a series of summer courses at YSP followed. Since 2024, he has devoted more time to carving, working under a gazebo in a friend’s field.
Richard feels very fortunate to be able to work in the warmth of Calf House Studios, after his shelter finally succumbed to a winter storm. His sculptures are stylised representations of the natural world, informed a love of woodcut prints and architectural detail.
